Big Projects for Big Companies

  • No matter how sophisticated our society becomes, human beings have retained three tenacious tendencies: we like clever tools, we’re essentially nomadic, and we’re in love with all the information we’ve amassed about the world we live in. Microsoft Book

In 1999, the partners of Cain Creative were hired as writers and creative directors for Inside Out, a photojournalistic book about the history of Microsoft. We worked on the project for over a year, traveling to locations around the world with other members of a team of hand-picked creative consultants. After interviewing more than 400 employees from every level, department, and subsidiary of the company, we eventually produced a big, beautiful, 11-pound, 315-page volume that was published by Time Warner Books in 2000, just in time to celebrate Microsoft's 25th anniversary.
